Dallas is being recognized for cleaning up city transportation.
The city ranks No. 5 on SustainLane Government's list of 10 U.S. cities that have been the most successful in implementing alternative fuel programs within their city transportation programs.
San Francisco-based SustainLane maintains an online data base of sustainability information for state and local governments. The service ranked Las Vegas as the No.1 city for alternative fuel programs with 63 percent of its city vehicle fleet using alternative fuels, the report said.
It was followed by Honolulu, Hawaii; Kansas City, Mo.; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Dallas, where 39 percent of city vehicles use alternative fuels. Denver; Phoenix; Los Angeles; Seattle and Portland round out the top 10 list.
SustainLane surveyed the top 50 U.S. cities to find the percentage of city vehicle fleets that use alternative fuels, including biodiesel, hydrogen, ethanol, compressed and natural gas, as well as electric and gas-hybrid vehicles.
